Innovative Community Solar Project at the ScienceWorks Museum & The Farm at SOU
Ashland’s ScienceWorks Hands-on Museum is home to the city’s first significant Community Solar installation consisting of six Stracker Model S1Bs.
This installation is the result of collaboration between Stracker Solar, Abbott’s Cottages LLC, ScienceWorks and Southern Oregon University, and utilizes the City’s progressive Virtual Net Metering ordinance. The City of Ashland allows community solar projects like this to be production metered and have the generated power allocated to distant Ashland Electric customers (of owners’ choosing).
ScienceWorks and Southern Oregon University have leased the project site to the investor/owner and are excited for the educational and research opportunities it offers. The installation is bringing Renewable Energy Credits to SOU and will serve as a platform for Agrivoltaics research.
